Prince Obinna Okey 


Former Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs, Prince Obinna Okey and former Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Evangelist Freedom Onyeka Ikechiuku, both from Ikwuano LGA of Abia State have announced their resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), pointing to the lingering internal wranglings and leadership instability rocking the party.

Prince Okey in a letter to the chairman , PDP Oboro Ward 1 stated "I write to formally inform you of my resignation from the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This decision was actually a difficult one but came after a careful thought". The letter was dated March 9, 2026

While Evangelist Ikechukwu in his resignation letter, dated March 22, 2026,   submitted to the chairman of PDP, Oboro Ward 4, explained that his decision followed deep reflection, stressing that the current state of disunity within the PDP has hindered his ability to contribute meaningfully to its progress.

He, however, acknowledged the role the party played in his political journey, appreciating the platform it provided him to serve and grow, particularly during his time in government.

Ikechiuku, an Abuja-based real estate consultant remains a notable political force in Ikwuano LGA with a strong grassroots presence and loyal support base.

With political activities gradually intensifying ahead of the coming season, there are indications that consultations are in top gear, as observers and political stakeholders await his next move and the political camp he may align with

Prince Okey who enjoys a vast following in Ikwuano grassroots politics also appreciated the leadership and members of the PDP for the opportunity given him to serve as State Organizing Secretary and Honourable Commissioner for Inter Governmental Affairs
