The Abia State All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leader, Chief Jerry Awa, has described the landslide victory of Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma in the Abia Central senatorial primary as a direct endorsement of his transformational leadership style by the party's grassroots.
Awa made the declaration following the official announcement of the primary election results, where Atuma defeated seasoned political heavyweights to secure the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections

According to the official results announced by the APC Collation Officer, Thomas Nkoro, at the party's secretariat in Umuahia, Atuma secured a commanding victory by polling 36,935 votes. He defeated his closest rivals, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, who scored 11,451 votes, and Hon. Sam Onuigbo, who secured 5,833 votes. The election spanned the six local government areas of the district: Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North, and Isiala Ngwa South.
Reacting to the decisive outcome, Awa stated that the wide margin of victory reflects Atuma’s deep connection with the people, predicting an identical landslide victory for the candidate in the General Election.
"Hon. Emeka Atuma has a massive grassroots following, and it will definitely translate into victory come the National Assembly election," Awa said. "The people know that Atuma speaks their language and feels their heartbeat."
Awa highlighted Atuma’s previous tenure in the House of Representatives representing the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, noting that his track record of agricultural advocacy and youth employment remains visible across the State.
The youth leader further outlined five key reasons why the party faithful and the wider constituency have embraced Atuma’s leadership style for the Senate:
Grassroots Capacity and Infrastructure: Awa described Atuma as a "bridge-builder" who understands the socio-economic needs of rural communities, particularly in attracting critical infrastructure to agrarian areas.
Legislative Experience: Arguing that the Senate is a place for political heavyweights, Awa noted that Atuma possesses the necessary negotiation skills to secure federal projects and grants for Abia Central.
Unrestricted Accessibility: Unlike politicians who build walls around themselves, Atuma was praised for maintaining open communication channels with ordinary constituents.
Proven Delivery: His campaign is backed by tangible development projects previously executed across three local government areas.
Strategic Capability: Awa affirmed that Atuma has the political acumen to compete and advocate effectively on the national stage.
"The message from the grassroots is loud and clear," Awa concluded. "Atuma has done it before, and he will do it again—this time on a bigger stage."
