In a significant development for the 2027 legislative race, Ugwumba Chika Ishionwu has formally entered the contest for the Abia State House of Assembly as he obtained his expression of interest and nomination forms at the All Progressives Congress, APC State Headquarters, Umuahia.
The move marks a transition from months of high-level grassroots consultations to a formal declaration of candidacy for Ikwuano State Constituency on the platform of the APC.
The purchase of the forms follows a pivotal directive from the APC National Leadership, which recently rescinded all existing zoning arrangements within the Abia State chapter. Political analysts suggest that this "open-field" policy has emboldened aspirants like Ishionwu to step forward, ensuring a competitive primary process.
By formalizing his intent at the State Secretariat, Ishionwu has signaled a clear readiness to test his popularity among the party’s delegates and the wider electorate.
A prominent philanthropist, community leader, and Facilitator of the For Us By Us, FUBU Movement, Ishionwu was accompanied to the party secretariat by a spirited contingent of supporters, including representatives from various youth organizations and women’s groups.
Spokespersons for the supporters described the event as the "first official step toward purposeful representation," citing Ishionwu’s long-standing commitment to community welfare and accessibility as his primary credentials for the seat.
Speaking briefly after obtaining the documents, Ishionwu emphasized that his aspiration is rooted in a desire to provide development-driven representation. He is expected to unveil a comprehensive campaign manifesto and legislative agenda in the coming weeks, detailing his strategy for economic and social advancement within his constituency.
As the political atmosphere in Abia State intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the APC primaries are expected to be a major battleground for the party’s soul in the region.
