Renowned legal practitioner and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Monday Ubani, has achieved a significant academic milestone by successfully defending his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) thesis in Law at Babcock University.

The oral defence, or viva voce, took place on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the institution’s Ilishan-Remo campus. This achievement marks a major milestone for the prominent lawyer, who is widely recognized not only for his courtroom advocacy but also for his incisive contributions to national public affairs.

The examination process was marked by rigorous academic scrutiny, presided over by a panel of high-ranking legal scholars.

The panel featured External Examiner, Prof. O. A. Fatula, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Obafemi Awolowo University and a leading authority on constitutional law; And Internal Examiner: Professor Nwogwugwu Ngozi.

The research journey leading to this milestone was steered by two of the university's esteemed supervisors, Professor Dorcas Odunaike and Professor Vera Ekundayo. Institutional support for the process was also provided by the Head of the Department of Law, Prof. Sokunbi Imosemi, and the Postgraduate Coordinator, Dr. Nzeribe Abangwu.

Following the successful defence,  Ubani expressed deep humility, attributing his success to divine grace and the persistence required to balance a demanding legal practice with the rigors of doctoral research.

Colleagues and members of the Nigerian legal community have begun pouring in tributes, hailing the feat as a masterclass in intellectual resilience. Peers have described the achievement as a "beacon of inspiration" for younger practitioners, demonstrating that professional distinction and academic excellence can be pursued concurrently.

By securing this doctorate, Ubani reinforces his enduring commitment to the advancement of legal scholarship and constitutionalism in Nigeria, further cementing his legacy as both an advocate in the courtroom and a scholar in the academy.
